Looking back over the years, I have switched between so many varieties of cameras. I was always on the lookout for something different. A lot of photographers go through that, we often call it G.A.S - Gear Acquisition Syndrome. You always need to have the latest and greatest that is going to make a 'huge' difference to your photography and elevate it to another level.
This year I am making a concise effort to keep things to 1 camera at a time. Recently I sold my Fuji X100VI, it was a fantastic companion for me during my travels in India and Scotland. I am a proponent of the saying "constraint fosters creativity", but I like the constraint to be coming from the lens not the camera and the Nikon Z series is just more flexible for me. I can't say that image quality was at all a part of my decision as both are fantastic cameras. One thing they do have in common is below par autofocusing capabilities compared to other cameras in the segment, so far I have been unable to justify upgrading to a Z8 or Z9 just for the autofocus.
Instead of buying new cameras I have decided to invest in high quality lenses which is always the smart way to go. Recently I got the Nikkor Z 105mm Macro which doubles as my scanning lens for film, Nikkor Z 14-30mm and I just aquired what I believe is one of the best lenses nikon has ever made, the Nikkor 28mm 1.4 ED!
Another reason behind my decision to stick with Nikon is the ability to use the same lenses across different generations of cameras. I love the ability to use all of my old lenses with the Nikon Z7II and still be able to use them for film as well.
Now all I need to do is find the time to go out and take pictures.
